Although the life of a person is in a land full of thorns and weeds, there is always a space in which the good seed can grow. You have to trust God.

Formation Programsfaith sharing groups
Want to go deeper in your relationship with Christ? Join one of our Faith Sharing Groups. Faith Sharing Groups typically meet once a week during Lent, but some meet throughout the entire year. There are numerous groups that meet at parishioners’ homes on various days of the week throughout Omaha. If you are interested in exploring your faith in a cozy setting with some friends, these faith sharing groups are an option worth exploring. To sign up for a specific group, contact Cathy Jenkins Walsh at the parish office or at [email protected]. youth ministry
The Youth Group is a way to continue your child’s involvement at Sacred Heart once they complete Religious Ed. Meeting every Wednesday, high schoolers have the opportunity to make new friends, serve their community, and just be themselves. For more information or to sign up, please contact the parish office at 402-451-5755. young adult ministry
The Sacred Heart Young Adult Group is for anyone in their 20's or 30's who is interested in service work and volunteering in the community, further exploring their faith, and participating in social and community building activities. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Matt Boland at [email protected]. Family of Faith
Sacred Heart offers an alternative to CCD or classroom Religious Education. Families of Faith encourages and equips parents to be fully involved in passing their faith on to their children. At Sacred Heart, we have one gathering each month with parents and children to work on the month's lesson (currently by zoom because of the pandemic). During the month, families met for a community meeting focused on the same topic. Still, they centered on a more community building and faith experience. We also provide a parent learning experience that we call Happy Holy Hour each month to help parents learn about the month's topic. The church teaches that parents are the most important teachers of faith for their children. This model of formation puts parents in the role that God intended! Children ages 6 through Confirmation work together with their parents on the lessons. Different age-appropriate activities are provided for each lesson. If you would like more information, please contact Sue Vavak at [email protected] or call the office at 402-451-5755. RCIA
RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, represents a great opportunity to learn more about the life of Christ and the fundamentals of the Catholic Church. The RCIA group has a series of weekly meetings which start in September and continue, with a few breaks, through Easter. All meetings are held on Sundays after the 10:30 Mass from noon to 1:30 pm in the Parish Center. The meetings focus on sharing and discussing Catholic beliefs and practices, Scripture, prayer, and community. For many this process leads to seeking membership in the Catholic Church. However, there is no obligation to become a member of the Catholic Church. All who want to learn about the Catholic Church are welcome. The RCIA process is one of sharing, believing, praying, and serving. To learn more about RCIA contact Cathy Walsh at the parish office or at [email protected] Vacation bible school
Sacred Heart hosts Vacation Bible School the second week of July from 9:00am to noon. VBS is for kids 3 years old to 5th grade. We serve not only the children of our parish, but the children in our neighborhood as well. Kids act out bible stories, sing songs, make new friends, and learn how much God loves them. We are always in need of youth leaders (6th grade or older) and safe environment certified adult volunteers. To register your child or to volunteer, contact Sue Vavak at the parish office or at [email protected] bible studies
Are you looking for a more in-depth understanding of the Sunday readings? Sacred Heart has several Bible Study Groups that meet on Tuesdays and Sundays to discuss the readings, the context from when it was written, and how it relates to our daily lives. To join a group near your or find out where and when these groups meet, contact Sue Vavak at the parish office or at [email protected] generations of faith
Generations of Faith are for every age (hence Generations). These events have guest speakers that cover various topics which are relevant to current events in society and/or the Catholic Church. Sacred Heart typically hosts four Generations every year. If you would like to be on the Generations team and help plan and organize the events, contact Sue Vavak at the parish office or at [email protected] alpha
Alpha is a series of interactive sessions to discuss the Christian faith in an informal, friendly environment. Alpha consists of eleven sessions, looking at topics including 'Who is Jesus?' and 'Why and how do I pray?'. Each talk is followed by discussion in small groups. Alpha is for everyone – no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome. You don’t have to come for the whole term – just pop along for the first session and see what you think. No pressure, no follow up and no charge. If you are interested in joining the next Alpha session, contact Pam at the parish office or at [email protected]. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. |
