Immigration and Refugee Team

The Sacred Heart Immigration and Refugee Team's is dedicated to extending a warm and respectful welcome to those we affectionately call our "foreigner" neighbors. Our mission encompasses several vital initiatives:
  1. Supporting Afghan Families: One of our dedicated subgroups continues to provide unwavering assistance to Afghan families whom Sacred Heart has graciously sponsored. We also support related families, ensuring they find a stable and caring home in our community.
  2. Empowering English Learners: Another dedicated subgroup is focused on developing educational programs tailored for St. Benedict the Moor Parish members who are learning English and navigating life in our community. We aim to foster their independence and confidence.
  3. Educational Advocacy: Our commitment to education is evident in our quarterly newsletter, "Justice from the Heart," which includes informative pieces on immigration-related topics to raise awareness and inspire action.
  4. Assisting New Immigrants and Refugees: We are actively involved in helping new immigrants and refugees settle into the United States as part of "Omaha Welcomes the Stranger," a coalition comprising multiple Catholic parishes and organizations. This crucial work requires ongoing dedication, additional resources, and the generous contribution of volunteer time.
